As we are not able to meet in Church for this service, below is the link to The Church Of England's service. https://www.churchofengla...
20 January 2019
The service this morning was Sung Mattins. As is our custom the readings were taken from the King James version of the Bible, the first from Isaiah , and the second, the story of the Wedding at Canaan from St John's Gospel. In his sermon Father Stephen talked about the current controversy over the treatment of women by men, and explained that while the words of Jesus to Mary might seem harsh in current translations, they were in fact in keeping with Jewish traditional respectful address to women. Perhaps our best lesson from this story is in the words of St Mary Our Lady to the servants 'go and do as he tells you' and so we must.
The Choir sang the Benedictus in the setting by CV Stanford in C, and for the Anthem 'O Holy Spirit Lord of Grace' words by Charles Coffin (1676 - 1749), and music by Christopher Tye (1505 - ?1572)
There was coffee after the service in the Parish Rooms.
Two much anticipated events are coming up Firstly on February the 3rd we shall Celebrate Candlemas at our Family Service and this will be followed by a showing of a short film about the History of St Mary Our Lady, and a slide compilation of the building of the Rooms. There will be refreshments at his event.
Secondly on the 16th of February in the Parish Hall there is to be a French Supper prepared by Hilary and her team. 4 courses and Coffee or tea tickets price 15 pounds each available from the Church Wardens.
