28 January 2013
The snow having all melted away, our service of Parish Eucharist this Sunday was accompanied by a promise of spring, with the first snowdrops flowering in the church yard. The Gospel, from St Luke describes Jesus first declaration of his ministry following his baptism. At the Synagogue at his home town of Nazareth, moved by the power of the spirit, he explained that he is the fulfilment of Isaiah's prophecy. In his Sermon Father Stephen encouraged us to be open to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit and to be changed by our faith in Jesus. Our hymns continued the theme of Epiphany, and the choir sang a communion hymn, 'Ubi Caritas' from the Latin liturgy for Maundy Thursday music by Dom Gregory Murray, an ancient text of christian love and unity.
