The third sunday of Advent, so we lit the pink candle. Father Roger took sung Matins at the Church and Father Christ held a Crafty Mass in the church hall, were lanterns were made to use in the procession on Christmas eve afternoon.
The Choir sang the Jubilate setting by C V Stanford, and Gabriel's message setting by Edward Pettyman as the anthem
In the rooms after the service Father Roger drew out the winning tickets from the Christmas Draw.

A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
The servant of the Lord said:
The spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me;

and release to the prisoners;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour,
and the day of vengeance of our God;

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24

This took place in Bethany across the Jordan
where John was baptizing.

The second Sunday of Advent and we lit the second Purple Candle on the Advent Wreath.
Father Chris celebrated the Eucharist and the Choir sang 'How Beautiful upon the Mountains,' words from the book of Isaiah setting by John Stainer as the anthem.
After the service the Sunday School held their Coffee morning and sale in aid of 3 charities, TH
he Snowdrop Trust, the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Goodwill Hospital in India. It was a very successful and jolly occasion

A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
Comfort, O comfort my people,
says your God.

Mark 1:1-8

The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ,

As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,
‘See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way;
the voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
“Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight” ’,
John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness,
proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

and were baptized by him in the river Jordan,
confessing their sins.
Now John was clothed with camel’s hair,
with a leather belt around his waist,

Happy New Year! Advent Sunday is the beginning of the Church Year, and is a period of looking forward and waiting for the coming of the Christ Child. So we are in our solomn colour , purple, and we lit the first candle on the Advent Wreath.
Our all age Eucharist was celebrated by Father Chris and the choir sang In Night's dim shadows lying words Charles Coffin, setting and arrangement by George Guest from the Katholisches Gessangbush as the anthem.
There was coffee after the service.
Isaiah 64:1-9
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
O that you would tear open the heavens and come down,
so that the mountains would quake at your presence—
as when fire kindles brushwood
and the fire causes water to boil—
to make your name known to your adversaries,
so that the nations might tremble at your presence!
When you did awesome deeds that we did not expect,

And so we reach the last Sunday of the church year with the Festival of Christ the King. Father Chris was away at Walsingham so Father Lawson came to look after us. We had our parish communion service, and Fr Lawson talked to us about the passage from Matthew about the final judgement and how the way we treat each other must reflect our love of Christ.
The Choir sang Ave Verum setting by W.A. Mozart as the Anthem.
Our next big event is the Christmas Market on Saturday 2nd December. Come along and enjoy a Chrismassy French lunch and browse the Christmas goodies on sale!
Ezekiel 34.11-16, 20-24

depart from me into the eternal fire
prepared for the devil and his angels;
for I was hungry and you gave me no food,

I was a stranger and you did not welcome me,
naked and you did not give me clothing,
sick and in prison and you did not visit me.”
Then they also will answer,
“Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty
or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison,
and did not take care of you?”
Then he will answer them,

just as you did not do it to one of the least of these,

And these will go away into eternal punishment,
but the righteous into eternal life.’

The Third Sunday in November, so we provide a choice of worship at 10 am! In Church we had a Choral Matins, lead by the Church Wardens, and in the Church Hall there was a Crafty Mass lead by Father Chris. This pattern allows us to have a family orientated service with lots of activity and engagement and at the same time provide a calm traditional act of prayer and praise, so something for everyone!!
In the Matins, the Choir sang the setting of the Benedictus by Stanford in C major, and 'God be in my Head' set by John Rutter. We had a reflection from Father Chris on the Gospel read by Chris Field to guide our worship and prayer.
Its only 2 weeks to Advent Sunday and the beginning of the Church Year!
On December 2nd we will hold our French Christmas Market in the Church and the rooms. From 11am to 3 pm there will be stalls and food available. See you there!
Zephaniah 1:7, 12-18

Be silent before the Lord God!
For the day of the Lord is at hand;
the Lord has prepared a sacrifice,

I would have received what was my own with interest.

This morning we held our Eucharist and act of Remembrance starting at 10 am. The service included a short drama recounting the story of Pilot Officer Basil Fisher, who was shot down and killed on the 15th of August 1940 during the Battle of Britain in the sky above Sidlesham. One of two brothers he was 23 when he died. In the re-enactment the Fisher brothers were played by Sam and Freddie Merritt (Aged 11 and 9 years) and the Narrator was Anna Swain, the words of Winston Churchill were read by Michael Allistone. We are very grateful to Sarah Warren Librarian at Eton College Berkshire who looks after the Basil's grave at Eton and provided lots of information and photographs. We also thank Goodwood Spitfires who allowed us to take photos of the boys with a real spitfire at their headquarters at Goodwood aerodrome. Photos were taken by Sam Brading.
We were delighted to welcome Basil's great niece and her husband to the occasion.
The Choir sang the anthem ,So they gave their bodies to the Common wealth, Words by Perecles and setting by Peter Aston.
After the 2 minutes silence at 11 am we moved to the War Memorial and wreathes were laid by the Community Organisations.
It was a moving and very well attended service.

Wisdom 6:12- 16
A reading from the book of Wisdom
Wisdom is radiant and unfading,
and she is easily discerned by those who love her,
and is found by those who seek her.
She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her.
One who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty,
for she will be found sitting at the gate.
To fix one’s thought on her is perfect understanding,
and one who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care,
because she goes about seeking those worthy of her,
and she graciously appears to them in their paths,
and meets them in every thought.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Jesus spoke this parable to the disciples:
‘The kingdom of heaven will be like this.
Ten bridesmaids took their lamps
and went to meet the bridegroom.
Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.
When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them;
but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.
As the bridegroom was delayed,
all of them became drowsy and slept.
But at midnight there was a shout,
“Look! Here is the bridegroom!
Come out to meet him.”
Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps.
The foolish said to the wise,
“Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.”
But the wise replied,
“No! there will not be enough for you and for us;
you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.”
And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came,
and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet;
and the door was shut.
Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying,
“Lord, lord, open to us.”
But he replied, “Truly I tell you, I do not know you.”
Keep awake therefore,
for you know neither the day nor the hour.

This morning our al age Eucharist celebrated All Saints Day. For the first time in over a week the weather was dry and the sky clear.
We started our service with the Junior Choir, Sam received his light blue ribbon, and Amelia her dark blue ribbon. Amelia was also invested as Head Chorister with a special medal. The Junior Choir then sang 'Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John' .
The service then proceeded and we sang some well known All Saints hymns. Father Chris spoke about the Saints in his sermon, we came up with quite a few names of saints and learned some we didnt know including Saint Luigi Scrosoppi the patron saint of football! We are all Saints in training and if we follow the directions given to us by Our Lord with his help we will achieve sainthood.
The Choir sang 'Give me the wings of faith' by Bullock as the anthem.
Next Friday the 10th of November there will be a Bonfire an activities at the Church Hall with food and activities, all are welcome, there will be a small charge for the foo.
Next Sunday is Remembrance Sunday when we will have a special act of Remembrance as par tof the service.
Coming into view rather rapidly is the Christmas Market, this year La Marche de Noel as it has a French theme. Open across lunch time there will be French christmas delicacies to buy for lunch!
